On Monday, a victim’s husband shot the would-be thief who tried to steal a purse from her wife. The husband stopped the crime in progress, chased the man down and opened fire, police said.
Authorities have identified Jordan Ponce, 19, as the suspect who approached a 25-year-old woman and ran up behind her and grabbed her purse. The woman was walking towards her home on late Monday night when the incident took place at around 9.30p.m., as per authorities.
The woman following the incident told the officers that when she tried to oppose the thief and wouldn’t let go, he bashed her head against the building wall. A moment later her husband arrived on the scene hearing the screams of his wife and helped her out, the victim said.
“Ponce fled the scene but was chased by the husband, who jumped over a fence and landed on top of the suspect. The pair struggled. Still, the relentless husband remained on his trail and a second fight ensued”, authorities mentioned during the press conference.
During the struggle, Ponce hit the husband in the head to make him drop his gun and halt the gunfire, authorities added.
Local sources say that Ponce was injured in the incident following which he got into a silver car and fled the scene. When officials investigated the scene, they realized that the vehicle in which Ponce fled away was stolen 90 minutes before the attempted robbery. Officials located the car early Tuesday, said sources.
The officials while interacting with the reporters on Tuesday briefed that Ponce is currently being treated for wounds to his stomach and hands at a hospital. The officials during the interaction also mentioned that the investigation is in the process and Ponce is expected to face charges.
