Rap, as a form of music, is starting to gain more recognition in the music industry. Consequently, rappers have begun to acquire fame like never before over the last few years. This glory directly correlates to the increase of the artist’s net worth yearly and in total. Hence, one such performer, who holds a position within the list of the world’s wealthiest hip hop artists, is Dr.Dre.

Dr.Dre is a famous American rapper, record producer, audio engineer, record executive, entrepreneur, and actor. Moreover, he is the director of the artist management agency, Aftermath Entertainmentand Beats ElectronicsHe also serves as its C.E.O. Previously, Dr.Dre held the co-owner position of Death Row Records. Additionally, people accredited Dr.Dre as a significant personality responsible for developing and distributing hip-hop subgenres, West Coast G-funk. Dr.Dre, born as Andre Romelle Young, grew up in Compton, in California, U.S.A. His parents, Theodore Young and Verna Young married in 1964 but opted for a divorce in 1972. His grandmother primarily raised Andre in the New Wilmington Arms housing project. The rapper received his middle name ‘Romelle’ from his father’s amateur R&B group, The Romelles. Dre initially attended the Vanguard Junior High School in Compton in 1976. However, he transferred to the Roosevelt Junior High School due to gang violence at his previous school. Warren G., Andre’s step-brother, also stepped into the world of rap. Andre’s low grades led him to transfer schools several times. Thus, he decided to emphasize his attention to his social life and entertainment for the rest of his school years.


Career: Dr.Dre

Dre.Dre commenced his career, in 1985, as a part of the World Class Wreckin’ Cru. He found eminence in association with the N.W.A., a gangsta rap group formed in 1986. The group promoted specific hip hop lyrics to the aspect of street violence. Dre recorded his initial annals in the small recording studio possessed by the club. ‘Straight Outta Compton,’ the group’s debut album, was extremely well-received. Dr.Dre left the group in the following years and decided to appear solo. In 1992, he released his first single under Death Row Records. The debut album was named ‘The Chronic.’


In the year 1996, Dre left Death Row Records and established Aftermath Entertainment. He publicized his album ‘Dr. Dre Presents the Aftermath‘. Additionally, the rapper later ventured into the path of entrepreneurship. Apple bought his brand ‘Beats By Dr. Dre’ for an astounding $3 billion. It was Dr.Dre who recognized Eminem and 50 Cent’s talent and brought them into the industry.

Reports suggest that Dr.Dre’s net worth is a surprising $820 million, as of 2020. This amount makes him the third richest rapper in the world. The sources of his income lie in his involvement in music primarily. Other than the afore-mentioned work lines, Dre, along with music producer Jimmy Iovineco-founded Beats By Dre, the electronics company. Both Jimmy and Dre owned 25% of the company when sold to Apple in May 2014. Therefore, they each received $750 million from the deal. 

Philanthropy: Dr.Dre

Dr.Dre has involved himself in charity from the early days of his career. In May 2013, he donated $70 million from the money he received by selling Beats By Dre, to the University of Southern California. This donation helped to establish the U.S.C. Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Technology, Arts, and Business of Innovation. Dre also donated $10 million in June of 2017 to build a performing arts center at Compton High School.

Dr.Dre had a successful career right from the beginning. His net worth has accumulated from his ventures not only in music but also in his entrepreneurship. Although Dre’s marital life has turned out to be in shambles, fans hope this does not affect his rap style and accomplishment in the line.
