The Fast and The Furious franchise is a franchise full of true blockbuster movies. The movie franchise has generated nearly three billion dollars in worldwide revenue (so far) and also have spin-off films like Hobbs and Shaw. In terms of profits alone, it has surpassed legendary movies such as The Terminator, Jurassic Park and Alien franchise. There are many reasons for the success of these movies such as great action, cast diversity and loved by Teens and adults alike.
So it was no surprise that Universal studios are going to make another sequel in the form of Fast and Furious 9. But since we are living in 2020, the production has been plagued with numerous complications and delays. The release of the movie was earlier going to be in 2020, but due to comet lockdown and halt in production, it got pushed to 2021. Now Universal Studios have decided to revise the release date again from an April release to some time during May 2021. In this article, we’ll look at everything you need to know about Fast and Furious 9’s delay, cast and release date.
Fast and Furious 9: Release date
It is heartbreaking to think that the movie was going to release in May 2020 before the COVID situation took over. This would have meant we had already seen the movie, but alas that wasn’t the case. Instead, the release got pushed back almost a year, and the film was set to release on 2nd April 2021. Now this date has also been revised, and the new movie is set to release during Memorial day weekend on May 28, 2021.
Fast and Furious 9: Cast
The film stars returning cast members like Vin Diesel who has played Dominic Toretto since the series began with The Fast and the Furious in 2001, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrone Gibson and to everyone’s surprise Sung Kang as Han. This comes as a shock to fans as Shaw played by Jason Statham supposedly killed Han’s character. Sung Kang’s reveal in January trailer of the film was jaw-dropping as there was no previous news of Han’s character returning from the Dead. The phrase justice is coming accompanied the reveal, which is a reference to justice for a Han campaign where fans protested his untimely death in Tokyo Drift. F9 sees the return of Justin Lin as director, who started his work with Fast and furious 3 and turned the franchise into a Blockbuster machine that it is today. A new addition to the cast is going to be John Cena.
Fast and Furious 9: Plot
The Plot of the film is also a talking point the franchise is known to push boundaries of realism with its action sequences while having an emotional story based around family. The trailers suggest that story Fast and Furious 9 is going to be based around Dom Toretto past. At the start of the new movie, Dom is going to be leading a happy peaceful life off the grid with Letty and his son little Brian. But as the story progresses Dom is going to have to face ghosts of his past to save his loved ones. The main villain of the movie is going to be dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob who is going to be played by John Cena.
Fast and Furious 9: Reason behind the delay
The main reason why the movie’s being delayed is that MGM has decided to release the latest movie in the James Bond franchise “No Time To Die” on April 2, 2021. You must be wondering what’s the connection between MGM produced no time to die and Universal’s F9. In reality, Universal is handling the international for Overseas release of no time to die as well. So they have decided to push back the release of Fast and Furious 9 even further.
