As the race for US Presidential Election 2020 is moving rapidly to a dramatic conclusion and Presidential debates and manifestos are the talk of the town, OTT platforms such as HBOMAX are trying to catch the hype train by bringing gifts of nostalgia to viewers screens in the form of West Wing Reunion Special. The current political scenario is vastly different from one that was on or off-screen when the show first aired in September 1999. Still, fans are ecstatic to have their favourite characters return to TV screens for a reunion episode almost one and a half decades after the show went off the air in 2006. The show is from the legendary Aaron Sorkin who is well known for his work in both films and TV shows. His most famous works include The Social Network, a film about Mark Zuckerberg and the inception of Facebook as well as Emmy Award-winning shows such as The West Wing and The Newsroom. Let’s look at the Release Date, Cast, and everything special about this reunion episode.
West Wing Reunion: Release Date
The special was filmed in October 2020 with all the safety precautions in mind due to covid-19 guidelines put in place by the city of Los Angeles and California State. So it’s a surprise to everyone that the show is coming to HBO max this month. But fans are happy with this welcome surprise by the network as the OTT platform has seen many new subscriptions after the announcement trailer was released. The west wing reunion special is all set to debut next Thursday, i.e. on October 15th 2020 in the run-up to the US elections 2020 and people can watch it on HBO Max.
West Wing Reunion: Cast
The Original Cast of the show will come together with the original director Aaron Sorkin for the Reunion Special after 17 years, so fans of the show definitely won’t miss the authentic feel of the show even after all these years. Practically all characters are set to make an appearance and few unexpected guests as well. Bradley Whitford and Martin Sheen will reprise their iconic roles as President of the United States of America and Deputy Chief of Staff at the White House. The episode also features special appearances by former US President Bill Clinton, Michelle Obama, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Elisabeth Moss and legendary actor Samuel L Jackson.
West Wing Reunion: Plot
The special is set to re-enact a stage production of Season 3, Episode 14, “Hartsfield’s Landing,” Which shows President Bartlet, i.e. Martin Sheen’s character Play chess with his close aides Sam and Toby both on and off the board while awaiting the results of a state primary election. It is a fascinating choice of the director as this episode has everything West Wing had to offer back in the day and it contrasts current political scenario as well. People are all set to see these characters, maybe for the last time as the show is not expected to come back at the moment.
