A fan artwork released in December 2020 made Aquaman fans question the actor who played Mera in the movie. The fan-art showed Amber Heard’s face swapped with that of Emilia Clarke while playing the character of Mera in DCEU’s Aquaman. This made fans really excited to the extent of making this artwork turn into a reality. While these rumors seem to be floating around, the idea doesn’t seem that bad. Amber Heard as Mera: Replaced
While the fan art was very much convincing for fans to accept Emilia Clarke as the next version of Mera, the news is not something that has been officially proven to be true. Amber Heard, who plays the character of Mera confirmed that she will be continuing to do so even in the sequel of Aquaman that is set to be released in 2022.
Even so, Amber Heard denied these rumors for the upcoming casting for Aquaman 2, fans have not hidden the fact of choosing Emilia Clarke over Amber Heard. One reason why the fans wanted this to happen was the recent removal of Johnny Depp from the casting of his movies—The Fantastic Beasts sequel.
A petition on change.org was issued for the same and it has been filled in by a million fans who want Amber Heard to be removed. Amber Heard’s recent victory in the trial with Johnny Depp led to his resignation from Fantastic Beasts. There hasn’t been any say of the movie makers on this yet, but if this was to be confirmed, Emilia Clarke would have a fair shot.
However, this seems to have a very rare possibility of happening because Amber Heard came across this and gave her own remarks. She very clearly claimed these rumors as paid and the petition to be a paid campaign. She further added that such things do not have a say in casting decisions at all. In the same interview, she could be seen very excited to start with the filming of Aquaman 2.
Emilia Clarke as Mera: Rumour Explained
The famous Game of Thrones actor hasn’t been that lucky since the series ended delivering 8 seasons. This artwork of replacing Emilia Clarke’s face with that of Amber Heard portrayed her with the signature red hair like that of Mera, along with the green Atlantean apparel.
We can say, if Clarke were to play the role of Mera in Aquaman 2, it would come out really great. After seeing the same artwork, many fans seemed to love this idea enough to turn it into a reality and praised the artist for the same. Emilia Clarke however, has already done movies of the same genre.
She has been in contract with the Warner Bros for The Terminator and the Star Wars and acted in these movies. She funnily called these movies including her – “stupid action movies”. While she still faces a disadvantage ever since Game of Thrones ended, this opportunity would really look great on her. While these talks now stand as mere unofficial facts, Aquaman 2 is set to release in the year 2022.
