Anyone on the internet, even a non-fan of Star Wars, knew Baby Yoda. How could anyone not, with those big puppy god eyes and absolutely cute behaviour? The last we saw of small Grogu he was taken away by a rather young Luke Skywalker- and wasn’t that a surprise cameo!- and the Mandalorian was left alone. Fans, thankfully, are not going to be left alone for long though, as the show has been renewed for a third season. Will we see Baby Yoda and Luke again? Which corners of the galaxy will the show next take its fans? How will the spinoff tie into the third season and what else can we expect from the season? Our knowledge might be limited but yet have gathered all that we know to expect from the upcoming season of The Mandalorian.
Release Date: The Mandalorian Season 3
Early reports suggested that The Mandalorian Season 3 would come out as a Christmas gift. However, those qualms were quickly shut down. According to the most recent source, we have confirmation that 2021 Christmas will see the release of ‘The Book of Boba Fett’, not ‘The Mandalorian’. The show is still in pre-production, and production is due to begin the next month. If everything remains on schedule, we can expect the newest season coming out on Disney+ by early 2022.
Cast: The Mandalorian Season 3
Unfortunately, we have no official cast list. It is not released yet. One cast member fans can surely expect is Pedro Pascal. He will return to resume his role as Din Djarin. For the majority of the show, his face was hidden by the helmet, but well we did get to see him twice. Guessing who else will return is a hard guess, considering The Mandalorian has not shied away from exploring the Star Wars Universe. The ensemble cast is wide and filled with brilliant options. Maybe some will be making an appearance, but who we are yet to know.
Rumours of actress Sophie Thatcher being cast for the third season has meanwhile been spreading around. Nothing about the role she could possibly play has been revealed. Other than that, there rumours of Giancarlo Esposito coming back, given that Moff Gideon yet survives.
Plot: The Mandalorian Seasons 1 and 2
Set about half a decade after the fall of the Galactic Empire, which has been dealt with in ‘Return of the Jedi’, ‘The Mandalorian’ follows Din Djarin. He is the titular character and a lonely Mandalorian bounty hunter. He travels in the far-reaching boundaries of the galaxy. The show begins with Mando receiving the task of kidnapping a young child from the species of Yoda, or as he came to be called, Baby Yoda. The Child is being hunted by Moff Gideon, the leader of those, who were spared in the fall of the Empire. He sought to use Baby Yoda’s powers and connection to the Force.
Things take a turn when instead of handing him over, Mando takes the Child and goes on a run. He is determined to reunite Baby Yoda, or Grogu as we come to know, with his people.
Storyline: The Mandalorian Season 2
The last we saw of Grogu and the Mandalorian, Baby Yoda had managed to contact Luke Skywalker. After Mando was able to save him, barely, they were saved by Luke Skywalker as well as R2-D2. It was then decided that Baby Yoda needed to be trained. What followed was a parting of ways between Mando and Grogu. For now, the two have parted ways, but the Mandalorian is truly incomplete without Baby Yoda. The next season might pick up with their reunion, but we don’t know when this reunion will actually take place.
On the other hand, Mando was able to win the Darksaber from Moff Gideon, but that was not the end of it. Mando was unable to hand over the weapon to Bo-Katan who needed it in order to reclaim the throne of Mandalore. The two would have to duel in order to have a claim over the weapon, and it is entirely possible that it would be taken up in Season 3.
Trailer: The Mandalorian Season 3
Since production is yet to begin, we can expect a trailer for the third season for the Mandalorian either in late 2021 or early 2022. Here’s a trailer for the second season of the Mandalorian.
