Micheál Richardson Reminisces Late Mother Natasha Richardson Through Her Movies

Losing one’s mother can never be easy, even as a celebrity. The film industry certainly did lose a brilliant and talented actress when Natasha Richardson unexpectedly met her demise, but her son suffered an even greater loss. Micheál Richardson, who was only 13 when his mother passed away, reflected on her death and how he has been cherishing all those memories that he has of her. In an interview with The Times, he talks about how he misses her but is still fortunate enough to have something to remember her by – the movies she starred in.

Her sudden death came with absolutely no warning whatsoever, and hence, nobody was prepared to deal with the loss. As a result, it became imperative for her loved ones to hold on to the small memories they had of her. Be it the memory of her doing a monotonous household chore or a special vacation, those memories were crucial to getting closure. Micheál stated that he was ‘grateful’ that he can go back and watch her movies to remember her. Watching how she worked helps him reminisce and due to this, he considers himself to be lucky.

However, he did miss out on growing up with a mother to have ‘adult conversations’ with. He admitted that he had been a momma’s boy while his little brother was more of his father’s pet. As a tribute to her, he even changed his name from Neeson to Richardson in 2018. It was so that he could carry her legacy in the film industry, and that not only was the change inspiring but also comforting to him. His experiences also shaped how he played his role in his recent film, which he did while keeping her in mind throughout.
