Ashley Monroe diagnosed with a rare type of blood cancer- Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia
The country music star took her social media to reveal her recent diagnosis with the rare type of blood cancer-Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia. Through her Instagram post, Ashley revealed that a few months back, her doctor found out that she’s going anemic during the routine check-up. At first, she considered it’s due to a lack of nutrients in her diet. Even after increasing the nutrient and vitamins in the diet, the red blood cell count kept reducing. Therefore, her severe anemic reports led her doctors to run a bone marrow biopsy. Her reports were, however, not favorable and it was reported that she is suffering from Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia.
Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia is a very rare type of blood cancer, where the count of white blood cells starts increasing drastically. Cancer begins due to this abnormal increase in white blood cells. The patient who is suffering from Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia suffers an attack from his abnormal WBCs. The patient’s bone marrow starts producing unique and extremely abnormal White Blood cells, which attack the healthy blood cells. This can lead to anemia, thus causing paleness and weakness in the patient’s body.
According to the American Cancer Society, this type of cancer also lowers the count of normal white blood cell counts. Thus, the body also starts losing the stamina to fight the infections and lowers the immunity system. As per the American Cancer Society, it’s a very rare case of blood cancer. And around 1500 patients are diagnosed with this disease in a year.
