Mr. Motivator revealed the death of his 12-year-old granddaughter Hadassah following a five-day fight with meningitis. Derrick Evans, the health and wellness coach, said she died in the early hours of Thursday in Antigua, where she resided with her mother.
What Is Meningitis?
Meningitis is most commonly caused by viral infections, followed by bacterial infections and, in rare cases, fungal and parasite diseases. Because bacterial infections can be fatal, determining the source is critical. The majority of instances of meningitis are caused by a viral infection, although additional causes include bacterial, parasitic, and fungal diseases. Some instances of meningitis improve in a few weeks without therapy. Others can be life-threatening and need immediate antibiotic treatment. This disease is quite common in newborns.
Symptoms In Newborn
These symptoms can be seen in newborns and infants:
- A fever is present.
- Crying all the time
- Oversleepiness or irritability
- Difficulty waking up after a deep sleep Lack of activity or sluggishness
- Not getting up to eat
- Inadequate nutrition
- A soft place on top of a baby’s head that bulges (fontanel)
- The body and neck are stiff
How is a child’s meningitis diagnosed?
Your child’s symptoms and medical history will be discussed with the healthcare practitioner. He or she may also inquire about your family’s medical history. He or she will examine your youngster physically. Your youngster may also be subjected to testing such as:
The lumbar puncture (spinal tap). This is the only test that can be used to diagnose meningitis. A needle is inserted into the spinal canal in the lower back. This is the region around the spinal cord. Pressure is monitored in the spinal canal and the brain. A little volume of cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) is extracted and submitted for testing to see whether there is an infection or other issues.
Blood tests are performed. These can aid in the diagnosis of infections that cause meningitis.
MRI or CT scan These are imaging exams of the brain. A CT scan is occasionally performed to search for any additional problems that may exist.
