The latest of these surprises was presented to the viewers through the character of Wilson Fisk or Kingpin, his more popular alias. The series recast Vincent D’Onofrio as the Kingpin, much to the surprise of many marvel fans who had expected the character to be recast or simply to be introduced to a different villain. D’Onofrio has previously seen portraying this famous villain in Netflix’s Daredevil throughout its three-season run.

However, what seems to have most surprised the keen-eyed viewers worldwide is a tiny detail in the character’s appearance. In the fifth episode of the series, titled Ronin the identity of Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox)/ Echo’s mysterious uncle was finally revealed. In the closing moments of the episode, Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) sends Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) a text message with a photo of her mother Eleanor (Vera Farmiga). In the picture standing next to Eleanor is Wilson Fisk, aka, the Kingpin of crime (Vincent D’Onofrio).

This happens in a matter of seconds and soon the credits start to roll. Hence many viewers missed it, but some of the more “hawk-eyed” viewers noticed that clasped in the Kingpin’s left hand was a cane. The fans of the comic book are well familiar with this aspect of the character but since this minor detail has been missing from the Kingpin’s character in the three seasons of Daredevil, it has now come as a much appreciated pleasant surprise for the fans of the series and comics alike.

This minute detail of adding a can to the appearance of the character makes him much more comic accurate since he is always seen sporting this cane in the comic books and it surely adds much to his menace and villainous charm. In the comics, Maya Lopez was left in Wilson Fisk’s care after the death of her father, since Wilson Fisk was one of her father’s closest friends. Echo has a very close relationship with the Kingpin and he raises her as his own for many years while realizing she has talents and abilities beyond compare. He finally uses Echo in his battle against Daredevil. Echo remains loyal to him for years until she finally learns the truth that Kingpin was the one responsible for her father’s death.

Incorporating Echo’s backstory into the story is another aspect of the series that is much anticipated by the fans. The expectations have just been raised a bar higher now with the addition of this minor detail in the Kingpin’s character appearance. It just goes on to promise the dedication of the creators in getting the details right for the fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
