According to some show buzz sources, it is flying around the Hollywood towns that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to MCU as a Major Villain “Doctor Doom”.
The Iron Man role played by Robert Downey Jr. has essentially established the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is nearly impossible to imagine any other actor in the role of Tony Stark, so definitively he has owned the on-screen version of the character. His portrayal of Tony Stark has been the most successful in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. While it is remarkable that Downey has made such a profound impact on the character, and at the same time gave the character a pure real definition of essence. His career has been extraordinary, and he has become one of the most iconic superheroes of all time.
But it has been in the news for some days that Marvel has offered him another role, a more villainous one of Doctor Doom, and now fans are questioning whether Robert will be heading towards playing the Doctor Doom role or not?
The fact that he has been spending the last few months in New York and not in the Philippines and Hong Kong, where he was supposed to film the most recent Avengers movies and is rumored to be playing Doctor Doom, has now fans wondering if there is a problem between him and Marvel. The role of Doctor Doom has been played by the likes of Christoph Waltz, Julianne Moore, and local actor Shekhar Surya before Robert. It is still not clear though if the two sides have sorted out their issues, and if he is indeed going to play the role in the future movies.
Who is the Character Doctor Doom in the Marvel Universe?
Doom is a scientist, criminologist, and playboy who is known as the most powerful supervillain in the Marvel Universe. He is known for his silver armor and mask, which hide his deformed face and his tremendous intellect. He is one of the most popular Marvel supervillains, and his use of technology, weapons, and science makes him one of the most dangerous enemies the Fantastic Four and other heroes have ever faced. He is an inventor who possesses a genius-level intellect. Doom has invented several doomsday machines and robots during his career as a supervillain, among them being his Doombots.
Doctor Doom can exert technopathic control over certain machines, most notably his Doombots. He is one of the greatest-minded characters in the marvel team, but tragedy forced him out of his homeland and into a life of intrigue, crime, and adventure. Doom is a genius inventor and a gifted chemist, but it is his uncanny ability to anticipate his enemies’ moves that has made him a brilliant tactician. He has spent years studying those around him, learning their secrets and weaknesses, and then using that knowledge to defeat them.
Well, according to recent sources, Marvel has not yet confirmed the reports and neither has Robert nor has Disney either. So fans are wondering, will Robert be playing the villainous role of the doctor, or will he be playing another character, perhaps the next superhero to be announced?. We will have to wait and see, but here is hoping that Robert will be rocking the screens with the antagonist supervillain Doctor Doom role once again like his previous marvel major role as Tony Stark.
