JDIFF 2026 Selection Source Explores the Fragile Power of Alaska’s Last Wild Salmon Sanctuary

At the 2026 Julien Dubuque International Film Festival, filmmaker Nick Lee presents Source, a documentary that takes audiences deep into Bristol Bay, Alaska, one of the last untouched ecosystems where wild salmon continue to thrive.

In the case of Bristol Bay, its strength lies in what has not been altered. “Sometimes when it comes to preserving wild salmon, you just need to do nothing,” Lee says.

The process required flexibility, as the crew adapted to both the environment and the rhythms of the natural world they were documenting.
